Mackay est une ville qui a pris son expansion grâce aux industries locales, la principale étant celle du sucre. L'exploitation agricole des alentours est quasi-exclusivement consacrée à la culture de la canne a sucre (avec les petits trains qui amène directement les cannes à l'usine).
J'ai visite une usine de fabrication du sucre qu'on appelle ici un Sugar Mill. C'était super intéressant. La canne à sucre est broyée, bouillie puis distillée jusqu'à l'obtention d'un sucre roux, blanc a gros grains ou fin. A la fin de la visite, j'ai eu droit à un thé avec sucre sorti tout droit du Mill.

Mackay rose mostly thanks to the Sugar Industry. The sugar cane is the main local crop-raising agriculture. Some small trains bring the sugar cane directly to the sugar mill. After that, the sugar cane is mashed, boiled and distilled untill It becomes a crystalline substance and then raw or brown sugar. At the end of the visit, I had a tea with sugar directly imported from the sugar mill.


Le jour d'après, j'ai pris un tour pour voir les ornithorynques du parc d'Eungella. L'ornithorynque est un tout petit animal qui vit à la fois dans l'eau et sur terre. Il est très difficile de le voir (et de prendre des photos) parce qu'il remonte rarement à la surface. Après les ornithorynques, nous nous sommes baignés dans les gorges d'eau fraîche du parc.

The day after I went on a tour to see the platypus in the Eungella National Park. The platypus is a very small animal who lives both in the water and on the land. It is very hard to catch them because they come back to the surface of the river quite rarely.
After the platypus, we went to swim in the clear and fresh gorges of the park.
